Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect at my first appointment?
We will sit down together to discuss your current complaints, your health history, your story. You talk, I listen. Then, I will watch and assess how you move your body. This evaluation will highlight areas of dysfunction and will likely point out blind-spots you never knew you had. Together, we will dive into all the pieces of your puzzle to begin deciphering the root cause of your issues. You will leave the first appointment will a lot of information, practical exercises catered to your needs, and most importantly, hope!
Do I need a referral?
You do not need a referral for your initial evaluation or first few visits. However, you will need one if we continue care beyond 21 days. If you are pregnant or early postpartum, I highly recommend a referral at your initial evaluation so I can be in communication with your obstetrician or midwife.
Do you take insurance?
No, we are a fee-for-service practice and would be considered out-of-network for your insurance. However, you are able to use your FSA or HSA card. We can also provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement, but we will not communicate with insurance carriers regarding your claim.
I understand the hesitation to spend money for something your insurance says it will cover (even though that typically comes in the form of a sizable deductible or copay on top of a high monthly premium). Operating outside of this system allows us to focus on your needs more holistically rather than being confined to the rules and stipulations of your insurance carrier.
Can I bring my child(ren) to the appointment?
Absolutely. Babies and kids of any age are always welcome and free to roam the space. If you are having pain or increased symptoms while lifting or carrying your child, I recommend you bring them at least once to learn better strategies and successfully tote them around without any issues (they aren’t getting any lighter!).
What happens during an internal exam?
If an intravaginal and/or intrarectal exam is indicated from your history and symptomology, we will discuss and agree upon this together. Nothing will ever be done without your full consent. I use one gloved, lubricated finger (never a speculum) to examine your pelvic floor muscles. This gives us specific information as to why you may be experiencing your symptoms and allows us to create a more effective, individualized treatment plan.
Can I come when I’m on my period?
Yes! We are able to treat you during your period without a problem. If you are experiencing a very heavy flow, you can defer internal work that day. It is always your choice if you would like to cancel, but ensure you do so at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a fee.
What does a mobile visit look like?
If you are unable to come to the clinic or would prefer me coming to your home, then a mobile visit is a great option. I will bring all the equipment I need. If we do an internal exam, I will ask you to find a space in your home that feels private and safe to you. I have had some women comfortable with the exam in their living room while their young children are playing within view. Others are more comfortable in a bedroom with the door closed.
